Establishing a healthy diet can be a real challenge. It can seem expensive to buy healthy food and often we lack the skills to cook nutritious recipes. Our volunteers can help. They work with clients to give them cooking skills to enable them to cook simple, but nutritious recipes. This includes how to plan meals on a tight budget. Classes are very popular with both volunteers and clients.

Too often flats have no gardens, whether to grow flowers and plants, or fruit and vegetables. There is no opportunity to get out into the fresh air and learn gardening skills. Fresh Start’s Growing Spaces provide that opportunity. Here clients work alongside our volunteers to grow fruit and vegetables. This helps clients to gain confidence, as well as gardening and life skills. It is also an opportunity to engage in physical activity. The produce grown is used in the cooking classes and has also been donated to local food banks.
